Los Angeles Dodgers: First game in Philly after a 12-inning affair
By Jason Reed
It took 12 innings for the Los Angeles Dodgers to defeat the Boston Red Sox on Sunday and now the team is set for a four-game series in Philadelphia.
The Los Angeles Dodgers started the second half of the season with a World Series rematch against the Boston Red Sox. After losing the first game in rather lackluster fashion, the Dodgers went on to win the next two to win the series.
Saturday night’s game was a definitive 11-2 win that took the wind out of the Red Sox’ sails. Then, the Dodgers managed to get the job done in 12 innings on Sunday in a 7-4 victory.
Sunday’s win could have been much easier if Pedro Baez did not give up back-to-back home runs in the eighth to tie the game, but for the most part, the Dodgers bullpen did an excellent job of skating out of danger and giving the offense plenty of chances to win it.
The one bad part about winning in 12 innings is that the team has another 7 o’clock game in Philadelphia on Monday. They probably won’t get to Philly and in their hotel rooms until at least four in the morning, so tomorrow might be a struggle.
Hopefully, Dave Roberts lets the guys get to the park a little later than normal as they have earned it after such a hard-fought victory on Sunday.
Either way, we need to make a pick for our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series and this is who I am going with on Monday.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 0): Corey Seager
Corey Seager returned from the injured list after the All-Star Break but has not done much for the Dodgers thus far. Seager has still not gotten a base hit since returning to action while A.J. Pollock had back-to-back nice games on Saturday and Sunday.
That is setting the table for Seager to explode with an offensive performance like Pollock’s and lead the team in run-producing. Luckily, he has a good matchup on Monday as he does not have to face a fourth left-handed starter in a row.
Right-hander Zach Eflin is starting for the Phillies and is definitely a pitcher that Seager matches up well with. Seager has two hits in five career at-bats against Eflin, which includes a solo home run.
I do not need Seager to hit a home run to restart my streak, that is not the name of the game. All I need is a base hit and I think Seager will get an extra-base hit with at least two RBIs on Monday.
