The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their long march to October through the month of July and maintained their record as the best team of in baseball.

The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team to reach 70 wins just as they were the first team to get to 60, 50, 40, etc, etc.

Despite their continued success, some flaws bubbled to the surface and with a chance to address them, the Dodgers stood pat at the trade deadline to keep their high-end prospects.

With the calendar turning to August, the Dodgers and their front office have told the fans all the help the team needs will come from within. Essentially, this is the posse the Dodgers will be riding with.

Enough talk about the future, let’s look back at July — by the numbers.

.583

For the month of July, the Los Angeles Dodgers win percentage was .583; not a terrible number, in fact, I’m sure most fans in Major League Baseball would love for their team to have a month like that. For the Dodgers, it represented their worst month in baseball so far.

To be fair, to the Dodgers had a rough road stretch immediately after the break. They had to play seven straight road games against the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. Those series meant playing in hot and humid conditions and included three games with extended rain delays.

If the Dodgers play .583 baseball over the remaining season it will mean that they finish with102 wins — that’s certainly a great season.

25

The Dodgers had a rough time when it came to using their gloves during the month of July, they committed 25 errors in just 24 games over the month. Their woeful defense placed the Dodgers dead last in errors in the National League and third in all of baseball.

The biggest culprits were Max Muncy and Corey Seager, who combined for 11 of the team’s 25 errors. Errors mean extra outs and more strain on the pitching staff. Going forward, the team has to play better defense if they plan on having a successful fall.

3.95/.727

July was an up and down for the Dodgers bullpen. The much-maligned relievers group kept their ERA under 4.00 for the second consecutive month at 3.95 (still higher than their season-best 3.15 from June).

However, the bullpen blew four of eight games coming out of the All-Star break, but they also preserved and won eight of the Dodgers 14 wins for the month, coming out with a .727 win percentage.

Hopefully, going forward the bullpen can shore up their flaws but it’s a good sign when they do break down that they are able to pick up the team and still get a win.
