Los Angeles Lakers: Three bold predictions for DeMarcus Cousins in 2019
By Jason Reed
1. DeMarcus Cousins is named an all-star and is the Lakers’ true third star
Right now, the narrative that has been surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers is that Kyle Kuzma is primed to be the team’s third star. He was the one piece of the young core that the front office wanted to keep after all and will naturally progress with more time in the league.
However, with an already crowded frontcourt, Kuzma might not even be in the starting five. Anthony Davis appears to be slotted as the power forward and with three point guards on the roster, the chances of LeBron James playing the point are slim.
Cousins is expected to be the starting center and he is absolutely going to thrive alongside his new teammates. When he played with Davis before he put together slightly lower scoring numbers but much better numbers all-around as a whole.
And with LeBron James, who has always made big men better throughout his career, Cousins is going to get plenty of chances to return to form.
LeBron is likely going to take more of a step back and play more of a distributor role in the regular season to keep his body rested for the playoffs. And while he will still be 1A behind Anthony Davis, this will open the door for Cousins to get more opportunities than he got in Golden State and shine.
