The Los Angeles Dodgers have looked like a first-place team playing a last-place team and have throttled the Miami Marlins in both games in Miami.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a very promising homestand that ended in an 8-2 record with some sweet sweeping revenge over the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, on the road, the Dodgers have continued their sweeping ways and are primed for a three-game sweep over the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins, who are the worst team in the National League, have looked like a triple-A team against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With not much of a home-field advantage, the Dodgers have gone into Miami and given the Florida fans some fireworks, much like they would at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodger offense has scored a combined 24 runs in two games while the pitching staff has allowed just two runs. Dustin May and Clayton Kershaw both had great starts, Russell Martin stretched his scoreless inning streak to three and the Dodger offense has hit 10 home runs.

This is exactly the kind of series you want to have against the last-place team before traveling to Atlanta to take on the Braves, who have the second-best record in the National League.

As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, this is who we think can provide some more offensive fireworks and get at least one base hit on Thursday.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: 0): Will Smith

I actually don’t think I have picked Will Smith at all during this Beat the Streak series and if I have I have only done so once or twice. Regardless, with a southpaw on the mound in Caleb Smith, I am going with a righty in Smith.

I literally just realized that I am picking a Smith to go against another Smith. That was totally unintentional but I am going to roll with it.

C. Smith is the Marlins’ best pitcher so there is a fairly good chance that we won’t see the same high-scoring affair as we did the first two games. However, with a .324 average and seven hits in his last seven games, W. Smith seems to be a safe choice to just get one base hit.

The Smiths have never faced off against each other and Dodger hitters only have a collective six at-bats against the southpaw. Of those six at-bats, three are by Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor, who are both on the IL.

There really are no numbers to go off of so I am going to go off of my gut, which is leading me down the road of picking the Smith versus Smith matchup.
