The Los Angeles Dodgers have dropped two games in a row and look to avoid making it three in a row against the San Diego Padres.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a bit of a lull right now. The team has scored three or fewer runs in seven of the last nine games and have a 4-5 record in that span.

This happens to every team in Major League Baseball and while Dodger fans are certainly frustrated by the play, especially because part of it came against the New York Yankees, fans should be grateful that a cold spell for the team is just a 4-5 record.

There are teams that go on these kinds of runs and win only one or two games out of ten. So the fact that the Dodgers are close to .500 despite playing some of their worst baseball is a testament to how good this team really is.

Yesterday’s loss was an ugly one for the Dodgers, though. Outside of only scoring three runs, a costly error by Justin Turner on a play that would have been routine for high schoolers led to the Padres tying the game and then eventually taking the lead.

It also doesn’t help that Dustin May got burned for three runs in that inning despite only allowing one hard-hit ball.

But hey, that is what happens in baseball and the Dodgers are bound for a comeback. While the August-September losing streak from 2017 might be fresh in the fans’ minds, this team is different from that team and should not suffer the same fate.

As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think will get at least one base hit to flip the team’s fortunes.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: 2): Will Smith

If the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to avoid another cold streak like the one they suffered in 2017 then someone that was not on that team is going to have a big game. On Tuesday, it is going to be rookie catcher, Will Smith.

Smith has more than impressed in his time with the big league club and has already won the October starting nod over both Russell Martin and Austin Barnes. However, he has cooled off here recently with just a .167 batting average in the last seven games.

Smith is due for a big game after this cold spell and it is going to come at the hands of a young pitcher, Cal Quantrill. Smith is one for two against Quantrill this season with a double.
