Los Angeles Lakers: Ranking each role player by importance
By Jason Reed
10. Troy Daniels
There is a good chance that Troy Daniels does not even crack the 13 active players at the beginning of the season and if he does he likely won’t see very many minutes, if at all, outside of blowout wins or losses.
You could make the case that Horton-Tucker deserves the roster spot ahead of Daniels but the Lakers would benefit more from having Daniels be the depth “break in case of emergency,” option at the back of the bench so that Horton-Tucker can actually get playing time in the G League.
Yes, the G League is a big fall-off from the NBA, but playing time is still important. That is better than nothing.
Daniels really is not all that important to this Lakers team. The absolute ceiling for Daniels is that he can continue to put together good shooting numbers and actually be a scoring threat off of the bench for the Lakers.
However, with several guys in front of him both at the shooting guard and small forward position, it is going to take a lot for Daniels to make that leap and get the platform to even prove he is worth more minutes. For that reason, he logs in at number 10.
