The Battle for Football Supremacy in LA: The Rams and Chargers
By Redan Lopez
Hil’s Take: Rams over Chargers
The Rams are the better team between themselves and the Chargers simply because of their potent offense. Their offense features a rising QB star in Jared Goff. In McVay’s system, he has been able to grow the past two years in passing and efficiency.
Furthermore, the Rams boast a three-headed attack on the perimeter and in the slot in Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp.
The former two reached over 1000 receiving yards last season and the latter would have if not for an ACL tear in the middle part of the season. Furthermore, though questions have been raised about his knee, Todd Gurley has been one of the best running backs the past couple years.
He has scored multiple touchdowns the past two seasons and has been able to raise his catch passing ability as well. The Rams feature the 11 personnel line up more than any other team (1 QB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB, and 5 linemen).
The consistency of this lineup allows their offense to keep chugging along with no substitutions making it difficult for the other team to adjust on the fly. Third year Coach Sean McVay makes his offense setup so simple, yet so innovative that it is hard for any team to figure out what the Rams are doing week in and week out.
