Los Angeles Chargers: Things that must happen to win Super Bowl LIV
By Jason Reed
2. The offensive line has to be at least league average
The weakest area of the entire team for the Los Angeles Chargers last season was undoubtedly the offensive line. The offensive line ranked among one of the league’s worst and Philip Rivers was constantly getting pressured for it.
This was really showcased in the team’s regular-season game against the Baltimore Ravens, in which Rivers really couldn’t get anything going and the offense was completely smothered. However, it would be unfair to ignore that the offensive line was much better in the playoff matchup.
Regardless, it is a testament to Rivers and the rest of the offense that they were able to be as successful as they were despite having a below-average offensive line. If they truly want to take that extra step when the games really matter in January, though, the offensive line is going to have to improve.
That is going to be an issue at first with Russell Okung‘s health, but as long as he heads into the latter half of the season healthy then the Chargers will be fine.
There is hope that Dan Feeney can be more like his rookie year self than his sophomore year self and Sam Tevi was actually a bright spot at right tackle.
The roots are three with Feeney, Tevi, a healthy Okung, Mike Pouncey and Michael Schofield to have a good offensive line. These are all talented guys that have shown they can do it. Now they have to prove it and hopefully stay healthy.
