Los Angeles Dodgers go for the division sweep over Colorado
By Jason Reed
After stumbling a bit in Arizona, the Los Angeles Dodgers are back on track and have won two in a row against the Colorado Rockies.
Well, at least we know that the Los Angeles Dodgers are not going to do on that dreadful early-September cold spell that the team experienced in 2017. They could still get cold in the middle or end of the month, though.
It appeared as if the Dodgers were heading down that path after the team dropped three in a row to the Arizona Diamondbacks. With two losses to the New York Yankees still fresh in Dodger fans’ minds, there were a lot of people that jumped to conclusions.
However, the team has taken the first two games of a six-game homestand and look to complete the sweep over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.
It has been a great series thus far for the Dodgers. The first game saw the team explode for 16 runs while the second game saw Russell Martin and David Freese hit clutch back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh.
A solo shot by Justin Turner for safe measure in the eighth and the old guys effectively led the Dodgers to the comeback victory.
The team looks for another feel-good win on Wednesday as Hyun-Jin Ryu takes the mound. Ryu has been dreadful in his last three starts with an 11.05 ERA as the long grind of the regular season seems to be getting to him.
While it might have hurt his Cy Young chances, especially because Max Scherzer is just more popular, the important thing is that Ryu gets right before the playoffs.
That hopefully starts with a solid start at home against the Rockies. The Rockies are a good offensive team, which is all the more reason why having a good start today is important.
Getting Ryu some run support early on to make him comfortable never hurts either. As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think can get at least one base hit to help Ryu’s comfort levels rise.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 3): Will Smith
Yesterday I predicted that Justin Turner would hit a home run after not being part of the 16-run game and today I am predicting another home run, except this time it is going to be off the bat of Will Smith.
Smith got the night off last night and watched his veteran catcher teammate Russell Martin deliver the biggest hit of the game. Now, with Smith likely back in the lineup, he is going to want to one-up the veteran Martin with a home run of his own.
Smith has come back down to earth since his scorching hot start but he is still an excellent offensive option at the catcher position.
It has felt like a while since he has had a big game and today he is going to do just that with an extra-base hit on top of his home run and at least three RBIs.
