Los Angeles Lakers: Why the Lakers will be the NBA’s most electric team
By Jason Reed
2. We are primed for a truly special defensive season out of Anthony Davis
Circling back to Anthony Davis, he is not only going to be great on the offensive side of the ball for the Lakers but is going to be remarkable on the defensive side of the ball as well. It has felt like Davis has gotten underrated as a defender, as he is one of the best defenders in the league.
Davis is one of the most fearsome shot-blockers in the league and that has gotten overlooked. Davis is averaging 2.4 blocks per game in his career and three All-Defensive honors while also being the blocks champion three times.
Davis is finally playing on a legitimate contender and that is going to fuel him and give him that extra motivation to succeed. Not only that, but at 26 years old, Davis is starting to enter the cusp of his prime, which could see the big man block three or more shots per game.
Plus, Davis is going to have to be the defender that matches up against the other team’s best forward, leading to plenty of opportunities on defense to show how good he truly is.
With another great defender on the team in Danny Green to defend the team’s best guard or small forward, Davis can remain in the paint and pick apart anything that comes his way.
While LeBron is the face of the NBA, this really has the potential of becoming Anthony Davis’ team. The defense is going to play a huge part in that.
