8. Vancouver Canucks (5th last season)

Canucks GM Jim Benning is about as confusing as they come. Though the Canucks rewarded him with a three year extension, he hasn  earned it. They have been stuck in mediocrity the past few years despite having some really good, young players like Bo Horvat, Sven Baertschi, and rising star Elias Pettersson.

Unfortunately, these really good young players have been offset with some really head-scratching signings by Benning. Overpaying for veterans Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussell last season, along with acquiring an underwhelming Loui Eriksson has done more harm than benefit.

Benning’s signing of defenseman Tyler Myers at six million this offseason is even more confusing, as Myers has not scored more than 40 point since his rookie season with Buffalo. I do not like the signing nor do I feel confident about the makeup of this team.

Factor in that winger Brock Boeser has not been signed yet  and we are days away from training camp tells you all you need about how poorly the Canucks organization has been run.

They will plummet to the basement in the Pacific. The Canucks are a mess.
