Los Angeles Rams: Three biggest overreactions from Week 1
By Hil Lopez
The Los Angeles Rams started the 2019 season on the right foot with a victory, although it has still caused some overreactions from the fans.
Though the Los Angeles Rams did put 30 points up against the Carolina Panthers in their Week 1 victory, there have still been some overreactions about the team.
Here are the three biggest overreactions about the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1.
1. Jared Goff’s play
One of the overreactions was that Jared Goff threw for only 186 yards, had a 4.8 yards per attempt and completed only 58.9% of passes.
Goff looked a little rattled in his first game back as he did not play in the pre-season nor did any of the starters. Goff will just be fine as his road and home splits definitely showed in this game. He is far more effective at home behind his home crowd than going on the road against a hostile crowd.
The Rams QB will most likely throw for over 300 yards and multiple touchdowns at home next week against the Saints.
2. Aaron Donald’s play
The second overreaction was the surprisingly ineffective play of Aaron Donald. Donald did command numerous double teams against the Panthers and is usually dominant. However, he did not generate as much pressure as his teammate Dante Fowler Jr, who had 3 QB hits and 2 tackles.
Donald only had one tackle, one QB hit and no sacks. Donald got off to a slow start last year as well as he had only one tackle in the opening game against the Oakland Raiders and did not get a sack until Week 4.
Aaron Donald is arguably the best defensive player and most disruptive interior lineman in the NFL today. He will definitely bounce back in the upcoming weeks.
3. Malcolm Brown being an impact player moving forward
Lastly, the idea that Malcolm Brown will play a huge role in the offense as the weeks continue on.
Malcolm Brown was surprisingly effective rushing against the Panthers as he had 11 carries for 53 yards and 2 scores. Brown won’t score two touchdowns every week nor get as many snaps as he did in Week 1.
He was able to garner a lot of touches in this game because the Rams played from ahead most of the game. In close games and games where they fall behind, Todd Gurley will typically be in there because of his pass-catching prowess.
Jared Goff and Aaron Donald will most definitely pick up their level of play in week two against the Saints. Furthermore, Malcolm Brown will be an okay running back as the season progresses, but not as brilliant as he was in week one against the Panthers.
