4. 2016: 91-71 .562 win percentage +4 NLW Standings

In the first year of Dave Roberts managing career, the Los Angeles Dodgers were an inspiring resilient bunch that once again found themselves trailing late in June and eventually overcame the rest of the NL West to win their fourth consecutive division title.

The Dodgers were eight games out of first place on June 26th and got even worse news when their ace Clayton Kershaw went down with a herniated disk in his back. It was the first time Kershaw would be on the extended injury list and it seemed that the Dodgers would finally miss the playoffs.

Over the time Kershaw was out the Dodgers went 35-22 and made up 11 games in the standings, going from six games out by the time he came back being five games up. The Dodgers could hit for power, having four players hit over 25 home runs and drive in more than 70 runs despite being bottom four in batting average and on-base percentage.

Despite losing Kershaw for two months, Dodger pitching was again impressive, as the Dodgers were a top-five staff in ERA, strikeouts, and saves. The team improved dramatically defensively going from second to last in 2015 to 3rd in the NL in errors and fielding percentage.

The clincher was a dramatic one as Dodgers utility player Charlie Culberson hit an extra-inning solo home run to clinch the title in the last home game in the career of announcer Vin Scully. The team won their NLDS series against the Washington Nationals but lost in the NLCS to the Chicago Cubs, blowing a 2-1 series lead.
