Los Angeles Lakers: Players with the most to prove in 2019
By Jason Reed
Alex Caruso
Alex Caruso is the weirdest case of someone not being a household name but somehow being somewhat of a household name among NBA fans. The average casual sports fan outside of Los Angeles definitely does not know who Alex Caruso is.
However, most NBA fans know exactly who Caruso is, but not even for his play. People know who he is just because he is the most average-looking guy out there on the court that has the receiving dad hairline.
Laker fans who watched a good portion of Caruso’s play know what he is capable of. Most basketball minds, outside of some exceptions, don’t know anything about Caruso past his name and appearance.
Caruso has a lot to prove as he could really establish a name for himself as a key player on a title-contending team. The best part about this for Caruso is the fit as he could be a great complimentary piece to LeBron James.
Caruso is a point guard that does not demand the ball to be successful and is actually better offensively playing off-ball. He has shooting guard size, is an above-average defender and can realistically guard any point guard in the entire NBA and be somewhat of a defensive presence.
And while he is not a three-point shooter, he actually shot 48 percent from three last year, albeit it was only in 50 attempts.
I really like the fit Caruso presents for this Lakers team and it would not be surprising to see his workload grow as the year goes along as well as seeing him on the court in crunch time to act as a defensive stopper.
