Los Angeles Chargers: Staff predictions vs. Miami Dolphins
By Jason Reed
After another heartbreaking loss in Week 3, the Los Angeles Chargers are back on the road and take on the lowly Miami Dolphins.
This season has felt like any other season for the Los Angeles Chargers over the past decade. You could tell me that this year was any other year in that span and I would not be able to tell the difference.
The team is off to a slow start with a 1-2 record for the second-straight year. However, unlike last year, where the team lost to the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs, there are no real silver linings of these losses.
Both losses have been ugly and came down to the Chargers coming up narrowly short on the last drive of the game. Both games saw the Chargers enter halftime with a lead and subsequently blow it with their own mistakes.
Luckily, the Chargers get a bit of an easy task against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4. If they lose this game, I may lose all hope as a fan. Here is how the LA Sports Hub staff sees it going down.
Ahmad Akkaoui (2-2): 42-10, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have been struggling a little bit this season. They’re still a little banged up and need a boost. Maybe that boost will come in the return of Melvin Gordon. There are talks that he could be the starter against Miami, but even if he doesn’t play, the Chargers still consider him their starting running back. Miami, on the other hand, isn’t looking promising at all.
They gave up 59 to Baltimore the first week, got shut out by 43 to New England the second week, and gave up 31 to Dallas last week. Will Josh Rosen get the start again or will Fitzpatrick return? That’s unclear, but expect Rivers and his primary running back to have a big day.
Jamaal Artis (4-0): 38-14, Los Angeles Chargers
The LA Chargers get a break in their quest to get back to .500 as they play the Miami Dolphins a team actively tanking this season.
If the Dolphins win then Chargers coach Anthony Lynn should be fired; that’s how strongly I feel about the Chargers needing to win the game.
Melvin Gordon is back on the team, though he won’t play this week. A win this week and Gordon back on the team will get the Chargers season back on track.
Hil Lopez (4-2): 33-9, Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers will take on the winless Dolphins in Miami for week 4. Philip Rivers should have no trouble carving up the Dolphins terrible defense who was ramrodded by Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper last Sunday.
Austin Ekeler and Melvin Gordon (in a limited role) will run all over the Dolphins inferior interior line. Keenan Allen should have a monster day, and the Chargers should rebound and get back to .500.
Redan Lopez (4-2): 38-20, Los Angeles Chargers
This game will be a blowout. Although the Chargers are down multiple offensive weapons in Travis Benjamin (No. 3 Wide Receiver), Mike Williams (No. 2 Wide Receiver), Justin Jackson (No.2 Running Back), they did receive some good news with holdout Running Back Melvin Gordon returning to the team.
Whether he plays or not, his energy will be felt on the sidelines and on the field. The Chargers’ defense should not fall apart as it has in the 2nd half of the previous two games.
Miami is a BAD team. The lack of offense they have generated is one thing, but the amount of points and lack of resistance to opponents’ offenses is another.
The Chargers cannot afford to let the Chiefs run away with the AFC West, so they must win this game. They will play desperate and it will show in their thrashing of an inferior opponent.
Jason Reed (2-4): 45-10, Los Angeles Chargers
I already said that if the Chargers lose this game then I am absolutely losing all faith that this team can be successful this season. They absolutely can come back from a 1-3 deficit, but losing to the Miami Dolphins, regardless of injuries, is inexcusable for a playoff-hopeful.
Why the 45-10 score? Well, it was the score that the Chargers beat Josh Rosen by when Rosen faced them as a member of the Arizona Cardinals last year. This team is even worse, so this is definitely doable on the road.
Jon Soden (1–3): 24-14, Los Angeles Chargers
It’s not a bye week, but the Los Angeles Chargers get the next closest thing as they face the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins have been a trainwreck, and have shown no signs of changing this week. Pretty much everyone is expecting a blowout, however, there is only one area of concern—the Chargers (as any loyal fan would know) are notorious for making games against bad teams way too close, and causing a ridiculous amount of stress for fans.
With that said, the Chargers will find a way to pull out a win. But, if you are planning to bet on this game with a point spread at -14.5 in favor of the Chargers, you might want to consider betting on the Dolphins to win the point spread.
