Los Angeles Rams: Staff predictions vs. Seattle Seahawks
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Rams have a short week and will be taking on the Seattle Seahawks, in Seattle, on Thursday Night Football.
After an embarrassing loss in which the team allowed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to score 55 points, the Los Angeles Rams have to deal with a short week and head to Seattle for Thursday Night Football.
You could say that last week was a trap game with the Rams’ focus being on this game. But any way you twist it, the problem of this being a short week after an ugly loss still remains.
The Seahawks have been such a hard team to gauge this season with their various levels of performance but we are still going to take a shot at it. Here are our staff predictions for Thursday Night Football.
Ahmad Akkaoui (3-3): 28-21, Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are coming off of a tough loss on Sunday. It was probably a game they shouldn’t have lost. Jared Goff played horribly with three interceptions but threw for a lot of yards. Todd Gurley showed some signs of life and the Rams receivers might get some time off for once if he becomes a big part of the offense again.
On the other end, Russell Wilson is playing really well for the first time in a while. He has a running game that is pretty solid, and he has receivers who make him look good. The Seahawks are also 3-1 losing only to the Brees-less Saints. I think it’s going to be a good game and the Rams will come out with the win.
Jamaal Artis (5-1): 24-10, Seattle Seahawks
The Rams’ abysmal defensive effort at home last week makes me not trust them on the road in the cold against the Seattle Seahawks. Dealing with Russell Wilson and their bruising run game could be terrible Tuesday evening for the team.
The Rams’ lack of run commitment and Jared Goff’s turnover struggles are going to keep the chatter going that this Rams team is overwhelmed by early expectations.
Hil Lopez (5-3): 30-23, Seattle Seahawks
The Rams visit Seattle on Thursday Night Football looking to redeem themselves after a horrendous performance at home in week 4 against the Bucs in which they gave up 55 points.
Unfortunately, visiting Russell Wilson in Seattle is not a good remedy for that. Wilson is one of the best improvisers in the league in mobility and making plays on the run. He has a good deep ball and great weapons like wide receiver Tyler Lockett in the slot and tight end Will Dissly in the red zone.
The Rams have great weapons too, but what is concerning is how their defense was thoroughly mauled by the Bucs via the air and the ground last Sunday.
In a short week, the Rams will start off slow in this game and Seattle will take advantage early implementing its run-heavy attack early. Wilson will make some dazzling plays and send the Rams to their first two-game losing streak this season.
Redan Lopez (5-3): 20-17, Seattle Seahawks
The Rams defense was exposed last week against an inconsistent, but explosive Buccaneers offense. The Rams were bad yet against offensively, getting behind 21-0 and never being able to recover. Teams seemed to have figured the Rams out and that does not bode well for a Rams teamed that looks surprisingly one dimensional without a running game to speak of.
The Seahawks are coming off an easy win against a young Arizona team and should have a tougher time against a better Rams’ defense. However, I think Seahawks’ Coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson are up to the task.
This game will be a low scoring one with Russell Wilson leading the Seahawks to victory on a game-winning drive.
Jason Reed (3-5): 24-20, Los Angeles Rams
All the signs are pointing to the Los Angeles Rams losing this game, with most of them being Jared Goff. However, while Goff always seems to struggle under the bright lights on the road, I have faith that he will have a good enough game to get the win.
The Seahawks have not been the same menacing team at home this year. They only beat the Cincinnati Bengals by one and lost to the New Orleans Saints. The defense will be much better than a week ago and the Rams will get it done behind three touchdowns by Goff.
Jon Soden (2-4): 31-28, Los Angeles Rams
Its uneasy times to be a Los Angeles Rams fan, and this week will be no different as they will visit the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
After an extremely disappointing outing by the defense against Jameis Winston, there is no telling what Russell Wilson will be capable of doing. Additionally, Jared Goff, who has not been living up to his questionable contract thus far, will have his most challenging test of the season.
Not only will he be up against a very solid defense, but he will also have to face the 12th man of Seattle, one of the best home advantages in all of football.
This game is a chance for the Rams to really show they are capable of winning a Super Bowl. They realize that their reputation is on the line, and they will squeeze out a narrow win by a score of 31-28.
