There is one goal for the Los Angeles Lakers: win a championship, and the sad reality is that 2019 might just be the team’s only chance.

After a six-year playoff drought that surpassed the number of years without making the playoffs in franchise history prior, the Los Angeles Lakers are ready to contend for an NBA Championship.

This year is different from recent years as the Lakers are legitimate title contenders and should be treated as such. This is not a season where fans are being hopeful that somehow the team can exceed expectations. This is a team that, as long as it stays healthy, is a lock for the playoffs and will be right in the mix the entire year.

Not only is this huge for Laker fans but there are multiple storylines that make this more important for the guys on the team as well. Of course, winning a title is important to any player in the NBA but the Lakers might just have a little extra motivation to do so.

This would be LeBron James‘ fourth title as he continues to chase Michael Jordan and six rings, although now he may never get there. This is also a chance for Anthony Davis to get his first championship and begin what he hopes is a legendary career.

And of all the veterans on the roster, this championship would be the most important to Dwight Howard, who has a Hall of Fame resume and has been chasing that illustrious title his entire career.

There are high stakes already for the Lakers and what makes them even higher is the fact that this might be the only chance the team has in the near future to win a championship.

Here are three reasons why 2019 is the year for the Los Angeles Lakers to win a championship.
