2. SP Gerrit Cole

If you clicked on this article looking for the biggest potential signing that the Los Angeles Dodgers could make, well, here it is. Gerrit Cole has blossomed into one of the best pitchers in the MLB with the Houston Astros and has a really good shot of winning the American League Cy Young this season.

And even though the Houston Astros have $104 million in luxury tax space, it feels like they are not going to be able to re-sign Cole. Carlos Correa and George Springer are in the later years of arbitration and with Lance McCullers returning from injury, the Astros can afford to lose one starting pitcher.

Don’t get me wrong, the Astros are absolutely going to look to re-sign Cole because they would be foolish if they didn’t. The hope with Cole is that he wants to come home to Los Angeles and still contend for a World Series.

Cole went to high school in Orange and went to college at UCLA. He has the Southern California roots to make him interested in the Dodgers and the Dodgers have the funds to bring him in.

If the Dodgers are going to sign any pitcher to a big contract, it should be Cole over Hyun-Jin Ryu. And if that does end up being the case, the Dodgers would boast a rotation including Cole, Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, Dustin May and Julio Urias. That is if Rich Hill does not rejoin the team.

Cole may love Houston and may have no intention of leaving whatsoever. If he is eyeing any new home next season, it probably is a team in Southern California.
