Rich Hill: B-

Rich Hill was really, really good when he was on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The problem is that he was not on the mound often, which hurt what could have been a great season for the veteran before his contract expired.

Hill finished the year with a 2.45 ERA in 58 and two-thirds innings and was probably on his way to being an all-star before a forearm strain on June 19. While he did not make his first start until April 28, Hill strung together nine solid starts before being removed an inning into his tenth start.

Hill is at a crossroads in his career. He showed that he can still produce when he is on the mound but his injury history is a concern with his age. Plus, the Dodgers have a surplus of pitching, so they don’t necessarily need Hill.

But Hill also has no reason to sign with a team that is not contending. Perhaps he and the Dodgers can strike a deal on a one-year deal to give Hill one more shot while giving the Dodgers more pitching depth, which is never a bad thing.

Heck, I even love the idea of using Hill out of the bullpen to preserve his health and I would not even be opposed to him being the ninth-inning guy in certain circumstances.
