Hyun-Jin Ryu: A+

Talk about a career-year for Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu was not just the best pitcher on the Los Angeles Dodgers, not just the best pitcher in the National League but the best pitcher in Major League Baseball, for most of the year.

Ryu had some bad starts at the end of the season that inflated his ERA all the way to a terrible league-leading 2.32. He, unfortunately, has not gotten the credit he deserves as Jacob deGrom finished the year with a good month to make the conversation close.

He might not have the strikeouts of Justin Verlander or Gerrit Cole or the big name like deGrom but it is hard to deny the fantastic season that Ryu had. Ryu had a 1.45 ERA after his first start of August! He was on pace to make history.

We cannot ignore that he ended the year on a mediocre note but the fact that he is going to be a Cy Young finalist in upon itself is good enough for an A+ grade.

At 32 years old with injury history and after a career year, chances are that another team will pay Ryu more than the Dodgers are willing to pay. If that is the case, it was a great last year for Ryu in Dodger blue.
