Pedro Baez: B

Pedro Baez had a really good season is you just look at the numbers from the 2019 season. Baez appeared in 71 games for the Dodgers, which was the most on the team, and had a 3.10 ERA in 69 and two-thirds innings pitched.

With all things considered, that is a pretty good season for Baez, albeit I don’t think it is deserving of an A grade.

Baez definitely could have been better. We have seen how good Baez can be when he is at his best and there were outings this year where he just didn’t have it. Despite owning an ERA just over three, it was a common feeling to not fully trust in Baez.

However, Baez was good when the moment needed it. Hitters hit just .135 in what is considered high leverage situations against Baez, whereas the average rose to 1.95 in medium leverage and .198 in low leverage.

The biggest grip against Baez and the reason that we cannot give him better than a B is that he was a much different pitcher on the road than he was at home. Baez had a 1.96 ERA at Dodger Stadium opposed to a 4.36 ERA on the road.

However, part of the reason why his home ERA was so low to begin with is that five of the 13 runs he allowed were unearned at home, whereas he only allowed one unearned run on the road.
