1960s Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers moved to Los Angeles from Minneapolis, bringing the NBA to the West Coast. Thanks to superstar Elgin Baylor and the drafting of Jerry West, the Lakers became a powerhouse and turned the City of Angels basketball crazy.

In the 1960s the Lakers were third in the NBA with 422 wins and a .583 winning percentage, finishing first in their division six times. Unfortunately, the team with the most wins that decade in the NBA were the Boston Celtics.

The Lakers faced the Celtics six times in the NBA finals in the ’60s and each time the Lakers were the losing team, three times in game seven . The worst loss (probably in franchise history) was in the 1969 NBA Finals when they lost game seven at home 108-106. It would take 16 years before the Lakers finally beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals.
