1970s Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams dominated the NFC West during the 1970s. They finished first in the division seven straight seasons, which was an NFL record that was not broken until the New England Patriots won eight straight in 2016.

The Rams won 98 games during the decade, sixth in the NFL and third in the NFC. Their major problem was always the playoffs. During the regular season, the Rams had a .694 winning percentage but during the playoffs, it was .462.

During the decade the Rams lost in the playoffs to the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings three times each and they lost in the NFC Championship game four times, all at their home field the LA Coliseum.

When the Rams finally did make a breakthrough in 1979 and finally won the NFC title awaiting them were the team of the decade the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Rams played in Super Bowl 14 in their own backyard in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl and led 19-17 going into the fourth quarter.

They never led again and lost the game 31-19 closing the decade without a Super Bowl title and have yet to win one in Los Angeles.
