1980s USC Trojans

In the 1970s the USC Trojans football team won three national titles, six Pac-10 titles and they won five Rose Bowl games. Anyone looking at how the ’70s went probably thought the Trojans would continue to dominate in the 1980s.

The dominance did not continue as the Trojans only won two Rose Bowls while losing two others, in fact, the Trojans had a four-game bowl losing streak during the decade. The Trojans were just 2-4 in Bowl games for the decade.

The worst outcome during the decade for the Trojans were their zero national titles, in fact, they didn’t have one top-five finish at the end of the season for the whole decade after 10 such occurrences over the previous 20 years.

Though the 1989 team closed out the decade with a Rose Bowl win, the program was in decline and would not finish in the top five until 2003 and win just one Rose Bowl until 2004.
