2010s Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks of the last decade were a perennial playoff team and generally one of the better teams in the Western Conference of the NHL. Their 426 wins were good for eighth in all of the NHL and fourth in the Western Conference for the decade.

From 2013 to 2017, they won five consecutive Pacific Division titles, winning 227 games, good enough for second, one game behind the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite being one of the better teams in the league, the Ducks never raised a Stanley Cup—heck they didn’t even get to play for one.

The Ducks only made it as far as the Conference Finals twice during their run and both times they failed to win. The Ducks playoff failures were made even worse by their performance in the dreaded game seven of a series.

Four times the Ducks were eliminated in game seven and each time it was after holding a 3-2 lead in the series. When the team became too old or too injured it all came crashing down, in 2018 the Ducks were swept in the first round of the playoffs and in 2019 they missed the playoffs altogether.

This does not make the Los Angeles Dodgers’ decade feel any better, but it is at least nice knowing that they are not alone.
