Los Angeles Dodgers: Three different trades to make for Mookie Betts
By Jason Reed
Trade package #2: Alex Verdugo, Corey Seager, Gerardo Carrillo
This package has some familiar names and is not one that I am personally in love with, but it does satisfy those that want to see Corey Seager get traded this winter because he had one bad five-game series against the World Series Champion Washington Nationals.
This trade package speaks for itself and would be the route the Red Sox would look to take to stay competitive now while also cutting costs. It would also take away two impact players on the 2019 Dodgers, but it could be replaced.
In this trade, the Red Sox would be getting a young left-handed right fielder that is a great fielder, has a rocket arm and can hit from both sides of the plate. Alex Verdugo showed a lot of poise in his rookie season and there is a lot to be excited about in his future.
Seager allows the Red Sox to get creative. Third base and shortstop is already occupied with Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts but the Red Sox need a second baseman. Seager is a much better fielder than Bogaerts and can become the team’s shortstop, moving Bogaerts over to second.
I have the understanding that any professional baseball shortstop should be able to also play second base without much of a hangup. Finally, the Red Sox get the Dodgers’ 22-ranked prospect, Gerardo Carrillo, who has hit 100 on the radar guns and has the stuff to be excited about.
For the Los Angeles Dodgers, Betts would slide into right with Cody Bellinger in center with Pederson and A.J. Pollock platooning in left. The Dodgers would then move top prospect Gavin Lux to short and have a combination of Enrique Hernandez, Chris Taylor and Max Muncy playing second base with Bellinger and Edwin Rios helping at first.
