1. Josh Donaldson

Josh Donaldson is a very talented third baseman, in fact, he is a former American League MVP and is a three-time all-star. Just because he is talented, though, does not strip this signing of its surprise factor, as many would assume that if the Dodgers brought in any third baseman this winter it would be Anthony Rendon.

It might not seem like much of a surprise now that Jorge Castillo of the L.A. Times reported that the Dodgers could potentially pursue him, but it definitely would still have some shock value based on the other options the team could sign.

One reason why it would be surprising is the Dodgers’ crowded infield. Sure, Justin Turner could move to first base, but you would still have to take Max Muncy or Gavin Lux out of the infield, which is something the team might only be willing to do if they get Rendon.

However, the reason why it would make sense for the Dodgers is that is would be a cheaper alternative for the team and would still give the team the thing it really needs: a right-handed power bat.

Donaldson hit .259 with 37 home runs and 94 RBIs and would be the perfect person to hit fourth in between Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy to stagger the lineup.

I could absolutely see the Dodgers overpay the 33-year-old Donaldson on a two or three-year deal to remove the long-term risk while also giving him an offer that is better than other offers.
