It was hard to be confident in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bullpen in 2019, although the team finished first in the National League in reliever ERA.

There was a lot of distrust in the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ bullpen within the fanbase for most of the season. The team ended up finishing first in the National League in bullpen ERA but had a slow start and had to use an unconventional system to get that ERA number where it ended up being.

Joe Kelly had as bad of a start that any player could have with the Dodgers, losing each of the Dodgers’ first two losses and sported a 10.13 ERA as late as May 4.

Kenley Jansen had the worst year of his career as his days of being an elite closer appear to be over and Pedro Baez continued his career-trend of struggling on the road. It was hard to find consistency at times with the Dodgers’ “true” relievers, which led to a unique gameplan.

With a surplus of starting pitching, the Dodgers started turning to starting pitchers in the bullpen. Kenta Maeda made the late-season transition, Julio Urias was there almost all year and the young duo of Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin made relief appearances late in the season as well.

While it ended up working for the Dodgers, the team can absolutely still use additions in the bullpen. With only one great option available this offseason, Will Smith, the Dodgers may look to make a trade similar to the Scott Alexander trade they made two years ago.

Here are three potential relief pitchers that the Los Angeles Dodgers could be interested and target in a trade.
