Los Angeles Rams: Predicting the record of the last five games
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Rams are still in the playoff picture with a 6-5 record but things are still looking bleak for the defending NFC Champions.
The Los Angeles Rams were routed by the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night and that was the final stamp for many people to give up on the Rams making the playoffs this season.
However, at 6-5, the Rams still have a chance as they are two games behind the second wild-card spot. The only problem is that they have to gain two games in the standings with only five games remaining.
Some of the Rams’ remaining games are tough and based on how they have been playing recently we cannot be sure that they will even win the “easy” games.
It is going to be tough but the one thing we can be certain of is that Sean McVay and his guys won’t simply give up. Here is how we see the final five games going for the Rams.
Week 13 at Arizona Cardinals: 41-21, Win
This is the textbook “get right” game for the Los Angeles Rams in which the offense will look like it did last year and it will get the fans hopeful that the Rams can go on a run.
There are concerns in the Cardinals’ pass-rush getting to Jared Goff and making him make a dumb decision, which absolutely is a possibility, but the poor Cardinals’ secondary should not be enough to fully disrupt the offensive flow.
A few rookie turnovers from Kyler Murray will give the Rams quick scores, allowing them to score five touchdowns on the day alongside two field goals.
Week 14 vs Seattle Seahawks: 26-24, Win
This might come as a surprise, especially because I personally have been vocal about the Los Angeles Rams not being as good as people would like to think.
However, they should have beaten the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle earlier in the season and only lost because of a missed game-winning field goal off the leg of Greg Zuerlein. This time around I think we see a very similar game and in a poetic way, Zuerlein will get a second chance to win the game and will nail it after missing an extra point earlier in the game.
The Rams will gain a game on the Seahawks and at 8-5 will get the fans excited for the final three games.
Week 15 at Dallas Cowboys: 30-20, Loss
The Los Angeles Rams have taken care of business against the Dallas Cowboys under Sean McVay. Their win over the Cowboys in 2017 kind of served as the arrival of the team as a legitimate playoff team and they also beat Dallas in the playoffs last year.
The Rams find themselves back in Dallas and this time around it will be the Cowboys that get the last laugh as they look to win the NFC East.
This reeks of a game in which Dallas jumps out to a 10-0 lead after a good first drive and a turnover by Goff. From there, the running game will disappear, Goff will look terrible: all of the things we have seen thus far this year.
Week 16 at San Francisco 49ers: 27-14, Loss
Another loss for the Los Angeles Rams and at 8-7, this will effectively take the Rams out of the playoff picture. The San Francisco 49ers punished the Rams in Los Angeles earlier in the year and I don’t see Goff and the offense changing fortune this year.
Goff is going to get punished by the pass-rush behind his shaky offensive line and won’t be able to score more than two touchdowns. Unfortunately, San Francisco will score 27 to end the Rams’ season with a smile on their face.
Week 17 vs. Arizona Cardinals, 23-21, Win
I would not be surprised if McVay does not play his starters to keep them healthy into the offseason but at this point in the year, the Cardinals will have more incentive to loss than to win because of the NFL Draft.
The Rams still have more talent and the difference between 8-8 and 9-7 won’t really matter, leading to a Rams’ win.
With Seattle losing to the Rams and the Vikings and Packers having to play each other, I do think there is a chance that the second wild-card team finishes 10-6 instead of 11-5. However, it will be the back-to-back losses in Week 15 and 16 that keep the Rams out of the playoffs.
