3. LA Kings win Stanley Cup Again

It took the Los Angeles Kings two seasons to accomplish something they hadn’t done in 45 years as a franchise. The Kings won their second Stanley Cup two seasons after they won their first. This time the Kings did it the hard way winning three Game Sevens and needing three overtime wins in the 2014 Stanley Cup Final to lift the cup again.

The Kings started the playoffs by being down 0-3 to their in-state rivals the San Jose Sharks.  The Kings became the fourth team in NHL history to come back from a 0-3 deficit in the series. In the next series, the Kings faced off against their Southern California rivals the Anaheim Ducks, a first time meeting for both teams in the playoffs.

Again the Kings made a comeback this time winning the series in seven after being down 3-2. In the Western Conference Finals, the Kings gained a measure of revenge beating the Chicago Blackhawks who had eliminated the Kings the year before in the same round. The decisive game seven ended on an Alec Martinez overtime goal.

In the Final, the Kings face the New York Rangers winning games one and two at home in overtime. In Game Five it was Alec Martinez again scoring he Stanley Cup clincher this time in double overtime.
