Los Angeles Lakers: Predicting the December Schedule
By Jon Soden
Final five:
Milwaukee Bucks (December 19th)
Prediction: Win
This game can be a statement win for the Los Angeles Lakers. For those saying they have not beat the best teams, the Bucks have the best record in the league (tied with the Lakers). The Lakers have favorable matchups against the Bucks as well.
For one, Anthony Davis has the ability to contain Giannis Antetokounmpo. If the Lakers are able to hit their threes, they have a solid chance of pulling this one out.
Denver Nuggets (December 22nd)
Prediction: Loss
This game is going to be difficult for the Lakers. Not only is it against a great Denver Nuggets team, it is also the middle game of a brutal three-game stretch. Two things can affect the Lakers; they may be satisfied and somewhat lethargic after a game against the Bucks, and they also may have their minds on the following matchup against the Clippers on Christmas.
Los Angeles Clippers (December 25th)
Prediction: Win
The game marked on everyone’s calendars. The redemption game for the Lakers. The Clippers may have added Paul George since their last meeting, but the Lakers have also found their groove. The Lakers will be locked in on Christmas and put forth their best effort.
This will help to exploit the Clippers’ weaknesses; their rebounding and poor interior shot-blocking ability. It will not be easy but the Lakers will win if they can execute properly.
Portland Trailblazers (December 28th)
Prediction: Loss
Coming off of a Christmas battle, as well as a brutal three-game stretch, this looks to be a trap game for the Lakers. The Lakers are obviously the better team, but a lackluster effort on the defensive end could result in explosive performances by Portland’s star guards. The Lakers will fall behind early, and ultimately give this one up.
Dallas Mavericks (December 29th)
Prediction: Win
The Los Angeles Lakers have had two grueling battles against the Mavericks so far this season, being victorious in the first and losing the second. It feels as if the Mavericks have the Lakers number, and could give them potential problems in a first-round matchup. The Lakers will look to send a message this game, silencing any thoughts about a potential upset in the playoffs.
