3. Los Angeles Dodgers Yasiel Puig

2013: BA: .319 HR: 19 OPS: .925 WAR: 4.7

Yasiel Puig may not be number one on this list but no other rookie of the decade made a louder and dynamic debut than Puig in 2013 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Puig made his debut with the Dodgers on June 3rd, 2013 when the team was 24-32 and were in last place of the NL West.

By the time the season ended the Dodgers with Puig went 66-38 and won their first division title since 2009. Puig hit four home runs in his first five games to earn Player of the Week. For the month of June Puig won both Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month after collecting an NL record 44 hits for a rookie.

Puig’s dynamic play in the outfield and at the plate turned the Dodgers season around and at one point they would win 42 of 50 games and go onto to clinch the division title the earliest in their history up to that point.

In the off-season, Puig would be named to Baseball America’s All-Rookie Team and finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year vote.
