1. Los Angeles Angels Mike Trout
2012: AL Leader in Runs: 129 SB: 49 OPS+: 168 WAR: 10.5
Easily’s baseball’s best player of the 2010’s decade Mike Trout has been near or at the top of baseball’s food chain since making his debut in April of 2012.
Trout was named AL Rookie of the Month in May, June, July, and August of 2012 and he also won Player of the Month for June. Trout’s four rookie of the month honors tied him with Ichiro who accomplished it in 2001. He was named to the All-Star Game that summer.
Trout became the first rookie to drive in 55 runs and score 80 runs in 81 games since Joe Dimaggio in 1936. By season end Trout would become the first player to hit 30 home runs, steal 40 bases, and score 125 runs in one season. He also became the first rookie to hit 30 home runs and steal 40 bases.
At the end of the season Trout was voted unanimously as the AL Rookie of the Year, he won the Silver Slugger Award, and finished second in the AL MVP voting losing only because Miguel Cabrera hit for the Triple Crown that year.
Over the decade has continued to get better and is the best player in baseball but it all began with his historic rookie season.
