Los Angeles Dodgers: Why Josh Donaldson would be a great signing
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers did not sign any of the star free agents this winter but may still bring in a former MVP in the likes of Josh Donaldson.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have not done that much this offseason and you cannot blame the front office for not panicking as this is a team that is coming off of a 106-win season and absolutely is talented enough to win the World Series.
It can feel a bit discouraging that the Dodgers yet again did not land the big name that the fans wanted, but at least in the case of Gerrit Cole, they tried.
The Dodgers reportedly offered Cole an eight-year, $300 million contract, which was $24 million less than the contract he signed with the Yankees but would have paid him more annually. However, the team reportedly did not offer a contract to Anthony Rendon.
Pessimistic fans will say that the $300 million offer is something that the front office leaked to the media just to save face, I fall on the side of believing the reports as I really don’t think the team operates in solely wanting to please the fans because of how hard that can be.
The Dodgers are not out of the hunt to make improvements, however, as they are one of the few teams that are in on Josh Donaldson.
Donaldson, the 2015 American League MVP, is coming off of a solid year with the Atlanta Braves where he hit .259 with 37 home runs, 94 RBIs and a .900 OPS.
Donaldson might seem a bit underwhelming as a target after the team could not bring in one of the big stars but he is actually a really good fit on the Los Angeles Dodgers for two specific reasons.
