Los Angeles Dodgers: How Kluber and Bumgarner affect the Dodgers
By Jason Reed
Two big-name pitchers found a new home on Sunday in Madison Bumgarner and Corey Kluber and neither of which are with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were connected to both Madison Bumgarner and Corey Kluber heading into Sunday and both players found a new home for 2020 and beyond, neither of which being in Los Angeles.
News of a Corey Kluber trade first broke in the morning and Kluber is heading to the Texas Rangers. The Rangers only traded Delino DeShields Jr. and Emmanuel Clase for Kluber, which seems like an exceptionally low price and is one that the Dodgers easily could have beaten.
However, Kluber’s numbers and his stuff has been down fairly significantly and we broke down why the Dodgers aren’t missing out on much in this article.
The Bumgarner news was more surprising as it seemingly came out of nowhere as Bumgarner signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team that was not as connected to Bumgarner as the Dodgers were.
This was a bit more surprising as Bumgarner did not get the lofty contract that many were expecting. However, it is probably safe to say that the Dodgers did not want to offer a regressing Bumgarner a five-year deal, and maybe it boils down to Bumgarner not wanting to be a Dodger.
We really don’t know at this point yet what the hang-up is but we do know that these two moves highly impact the Los Angeles Dodgers despite not involving the Dodgers as well. Here is how each deal impact the Dodgers in its own unique way and how we see things shaping out moving forward.
