Trade #1: Straight up and simple

This is the simplest of trade packages and if the Dodgers are simply looking to add Betts for prospects, this is the price that would likely get it done.

Red Sox fans that are reading this article may think that this is not a fair return for the 2018 AL MVP, but they are getting quite a return for one year of Betts. The problem is that Boston has no leverage in talks as teams know they want to get rid of him before the year ends, anyway.

This is quite a good return for one year of Betts. The team would be getting one of the best pitching prospects in the league in Dustin May, who already has big-league experience and has filthy stuff that plays nicely in today’s statcast era.

The team would also be getting one of the three best catching prospects in Keibert Ruiz, who could probably be in the big leagues this season and at least could be the long-term catcher after Christian Vazquez.

Finally, the team gets a one-year gap option in Joc Pederson who can fill the void in right field for a season and be a presence in the middle of the order. If the Red Sox like the fit, the team could probably extend Joc for a cheap price after 2020.

The Dodgers can afford to trade Ruiz with the arrival of Will Smith and while it sucks to see May go, the team also has Tony Gonsolin and Julio Urias to look forward to. I could see LA maybe throwing in another top-30 prospect, but it won’t be anyone that is very-highly touted.
