The Los Angeles Lakers have been off to a tremendous start this season but the team is not perfect and could easily upgrade by trading the assets they have.

The Los Angeles Lakers are off to one of the best starts in franchise history and have solidified themselves as legitimate title contenders. While naysayers will try pointing out a weak schedule, the Lakers have as many impressive wins, if not more, than teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers, so that argument does not stand.

Chances are the Lakers will eventually level out and will not finish on the same record-setting pace, but based on the philosophy that the Clippers are implementing, the Lakers likely will finish as the first seed in the Western Conference, barring any significant setbacks.

That will matter in the first two rounds of the playoffs but won’t make a massive difference if they play the Clippers in the Western Conference Finals, for obvious reasons.

If the Lakers are going to stay on a positive trend then the front office should explore the idea of making a trade at the trade deadline. The team does not have the contracts to make a massive trade but could upgrade with the assets they have if they target a very specific type of player in return.

There is not going to be anything groundbreaking here, no Jrue Holiday or Kevin Love trade ideas.
