Los Angeles Rams: Staff predictions vs. San Francisco 49ers
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Rams are on the road against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16 looking to spoil the team’s chance of winning the NFC West.
The Los Angeles Rams are essentially out of the playoff race. While the team technically has not yet been eliminated, the chances of the Rams actually making the postseason are slim to none.
The Rams have to win the last two games of the season and need some help as they need the Minnesota Vikings to lose both games as well. While that does not seem like that big of an asking, it really is with how the Rams have been playing.
The team was just routed by the Dallas Cowboys and would have to beat both the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals, albeit the Cardinals are not that big of a challenge. The Vikings play the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
There certainly is a chance that the Vikings lose both of those games, as anything can happen in division games, but I would not bank on it if I were a Rams fan.
I know the diehard fans won’t give up as long as there is a chance and the Los Angeles Rams are looking to keep that chance alive with a win over the 49ers. Here is how the LA Sports Hub staff sees the game going down.
Jamaal Artis (15-7): 34-7, San Francisco 49ers
The Los Angeles Rams get to play spoiler as they hold onto a slim playoff hope. They play the San Francisco 49ers on the road, the same team that trounced them 20-7 on the Coliseum field. It’s too great a mountain to climb this late in the season. Expect the same mediocre Rams effort and a 49ers’ win.
Hil Lopez (13-13): 27-23, San Francisco 49ers
The Rams look to avenge their terrible loss in Week 15 when they face the 49ers in Week 16. The 49ers lost a heartbreaker to the Falcons last week on a last-second touchdown from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones. I anticipate a higher scoring game, but ultimately the 49ers will come out on top.
Redan Lopez (11-13): 30-27, Los Angeles Rams
This IS IT. After an embarrassing showing against the Cowboys last week, the Rams will seek to redeem themselves and do just that. They’ll keep themselves in it for another week as the Vikings will lose to the Packers at home, setting up an exciting Week 17 to see who gets in as the second NFC wild card.
Jason Reed (13-15): 30-14, San Francisco 49ers
I have been having too much faith in both Los Angeles football teams this season and my record is showing it. This week I have absolutely no confidence in the Los Angeles Rams against the 49ers, even if the 49ers are coming off an ugly loss.
In fact, that loss will work in the 49ers’ favor as they will respond from the loss in a division game and put their foot against the Rams’ throat.
Jared Goff will struggle yet again in a big game and I would not even be surprised if the Rams opt to just not run the ball, yet again. The Rams will lose and it will never be close.
