1. Houston Texans

It is harder to find a more fun fit for Todd Gurley than the Houston Texans. Just imagine Deshaun Watson dropping back under center with Gurley aside him, while also having DeAndre Hopkins as a threat downfield. If Gurley can get back to Pro Bowl form, which he certainly could, then that would be one of the best trios in the league.

The Texans were not completely lost in the running game last season but it certainly was not as good as it should have been. Duke Johnson and Carlos Hyde split time in the backfield and while both did fine in their roles, the Texans would be much better if they had Gurley take Hyde’s spot and Johnson still be the passing back that comes in during spread sets.

The Texans have the cap space as well as according to Spotrac, the team enters the offseason with $56.5 million in cap space. Hopkins is already under contract for the next three seasons, which does not restrict that, and the Texans could get another two years out of Watson before an extension with his fourth season and a fifth season option.

There would be two seasons in which the cap would be teetering towards going over but with Hopkins becoming a free agent in three years (and maybe getting a smaller contract), as well as J.J. Watt having two more seasons under contract, it would be a situation that could be easily handled.

Plus, we see it all the time, the contending windows for teams can be so short and this might be the best way for the Texans to capitalize on Watson’s rookie contract.
