123. player. 51. Pick Analysis. LB. Appalachian State. Akeem Davis-Gaither. Scouting Report

This selection would not be a selection that is solely based on a need like the other two selections and instead would be a selection that would be banking one on of the most fun, overlooked prospects in this year’s draft and hoping that he sticks.

Akeem Davis-Gaither definitely could help the Rams in an area that they need the most, an edge-rusher, but his value is not in that one position. His value is to be a Swiss Army Knife on defense for the Los Angeles Rams, which could end up making him a much better talent than a fourth-round pick would suggest.

Davis-Gaither showed the ability to line up in various different defensive roles in his college career. He could be a pass-rusher off the edge but is also good enough to drop into coverage and cover running backs and tight ends.

In fact, Davis-Gaither was even used in pass coverage against wide receivers at times. While that is likely not something that the Rams would do often, it does help to know that they have an athletic-enough linebacker to cover some slot receivers.

Even if he is not an every-down back and only comes in on certain packages, Davis-Gaither’s football knowledge and athleticism should, at the very least, make him an above-average special teamer.
