This draft is full of players with high upside and after spending the second and third round drafting offensive line help, that is exactly the route the Los Angeles Chargers should look to go. It might not be a surefire thing, but drafting Willie Gay Jr. could give the team a future starter and difference-maker.

Gay has seen his draft value get as high as a second-round pick and as low as a fifth-round pick in the last two years. He looked to be one of the best linebacker prospects heading into the 2020 season and with a great year easily could have found himself as one of the four-best prospects to watch.

However, he was suspended by the Bulldogs to start the year, which haltered his production and raised some questions. It was never announced what team rules Gay broke to be suspended eight games and he was also involved in an altercation with the Bulldogs quarterback.

The Chargers should make sure to really find out who Gay is at the combine and in the draft interviews and see if he is someone who they think can be mature enough to play in the league. If so, Gay is someone who has dominated at every level of football in his life and will eventually find himself as a starter in the NFL, even if it is not year one.

Plus, Thomas Davis Sr. would be the perfect veteran linebacker to learn from and make the most out of Gay’s potential.
