The Los Angeles Chargers are looking for a new quarterback in 2020 and one potential name that could be a fit is former MVP, Cam Newton.

The Los Angeles Chargers and longtime quarterback Philip Rivers have mutually agreed to part ways, leaving the Chargers in a search for the 2020 starting quarterback. This will mark the first time since 2005 where someone who does not have the name Rivers on their back will start at quarterback for the Chargers.

This could not have been better timing for the Chargers as there are a plethora of options available. This offseason is going to have a massive quarterback shakeup of existing quarterbacks while the Chargers also have the sixth overall pick in a draft that is quarterback friendly.

If there was going to be an offseason to move on from Rivers it is certainly this one, especially after his turnover-prone 2019 arguably led the Chargers to their 5-11 record.

One name that is potentially available is Cam Newton, who did not play most of 2019 because of injury. The Panthers are turning a new leaf in the franchise with new head coach Matt Rhule and it seems pretty clear that Newton will not be a Panther next season.

Newton is a polarizing figure and some Charger fans would absolutely love it if he was the quarterback in 2020 and some would hate it. If you follow us at LA Sports Hub, you know that I have had this Newton gut-feeling for months, before it was clear that this would be Rivers’ last season.

Here are three reasons why Cam Newton to the Chargers make sense, of course, assuming that he is healthy.
