The one thing that the Los Angeles Rams need the most heading into 2020 is an upgraded offensive line, something the Los Angeles Chargers are not going to be able to help with. The Chargers are in an even worse position with their offensive line, so there is no way they are trading away the talent they do have.

However, they could help the Rams with their defensive line and have a relatively cheap defensive tackle that would likely slot in over Sebastian Joseph-Day as the starting nose tackle alongside Aaron Donald in Brandon Mebane.

Mebane has one more season under contract and has a $6.25 million cap hit in 2020, $4.25 million of which the Rams would be responsible for, with the $2 million falling as dead cap on the Chargers. That is not too bad, all things considered.

Mebane is not the biggest name in the sport but he is a veteran talent that would make the Rams’ defensive line even better. He is more effective as a run-stopping tackle, which is good for a team that already succeeds in getting to the quarterback.

Plus, he is going to be better alongside Donald. That is almost a given.

So why would the Chargers be open to trading Mebane? Well, the team selected defensive tackle Jerry Tillery in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and after not really playing in his rookie year it is time for him to take over the starting job. They also have 2018 third-round pick, Justin Jones and veteran Damion Square.
