3. G Forrest Lamp

Surprise, we do have someone from the offensive line on this list. All the logic that we laid out earlier in the article still stands: it does not make a lot of sense on the surface for the Chargers to trade someone from the offensive line this offseason.

However, guard Forrest Lamp presents a different situation that could warrant a trade. While the Chargers are absolutely not shopping Lamp in any way, it would not be shocking at all to see the team part ways so early with the young guard for something as much as a fifth-round pick.

Lamp has not gotten a fair shake in the NFL. After being selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Lamp has played a total of nine games for the Los Angeles Chargers, totaling 174 snaps in four years.

So why would the Los Angeles Rams want to trade for Lamp? Well, in 2017, Lamp was projected to be a mid-to-late first-round talent that slipped to the Chargers with a high second-round pick. When the Chargers snagged him it was considered a steal and many thought the team got their guard of the future.

Injuries have derailed Lamp’s playing time and as a result, he is nothing more than a depth option that is on the last season of his rookie contract. To the Chargers, he is about as expendable as it gets.

For the Rams though, Lamp provides a cheap option that the team does not have to completely buy into but could potentially turn around into an impact blocker. He certainly has the skillset, evident from his tape in college, and needs might just need a fresh start in a new system.

The Rams would be on the hook for just over $1.3 million of a cap hit, making Lamp not only a cheap trade target but a cheap contract as well.

The Los Angeles Rams are not going to completely fix the offensive line and other holes without a first-round pick and cap space. They have to take risks and Lamp is a low-risk, high-reward target.
