Los Angeles Chargers: Non-quarterback options for the sixth overall pick
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Chargers’ biggest job this offseason is to find Philip Rivers’ replacement, which may or may not come in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Full disclosure: as a fan of the Los Angeles Chargers, I hope that they use the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to draft the team’s next franchise quarterback. However, that might not be a guarantee, especially with how the Chargers operate.
There are a lot of experienced quarterbacks that are going to be available for the Chargers to select from this season, both on the free-agent market and the trade market. If the Chargers do not love Justin Herbert and think that Tua Tagovailoa will be off the board, then I could absolutely see them going the route of an experienced quarterback.
Again, it is not ideal from a fan’s perspective, but I would rather the team sign someone who they like and can gameplan around rather than take the best available quarterback if they are not sold on him.
There is still a greater chance that the team selects a quarterback in the first round but there are other areas of the team that could be addressed as well. If the Chargers do the unlikely thing of passing on a quarterback, here are the only two options that would be worthwhile.
