Los Angeles Chargers: Mock Draft with Teddy Bridgewater signing
By Jason Reed
5. Harrison Bryant, TE
Harrison Bryant is a late-round selection that I would not just keep my eye on if he goes to the Los Angeles Chargers, but I would keep in the back of my mind no matter what team he goes on. Bryant has the intangibles to be a great tight end in the NFL, and once he gets to the league, chances are that he pieces it all togetger.
Bryant is not as highly coveted as he should be, perhaps because he was playing lesser competition with Florida Atlantic. Even with that being said, Bryant should have gotten much more attention due to his 65-catch, 1,004-yard season as a tight end.
Even if Bryant is not a great pass-catching tight end right away he is one of the best blocking tight ends in the draft with his 6’5″ frame and athleticism. Heck, he was originally an offensive lineman in high school before switching to tight end, so the blocking background is there.
Zierlein went as far as to compare him to George Kittle, which is quite the comparison for someone who many is projecting to go no earlier than the fourth round. Even if he is only 75 percent of what Kittle is, for a fifth-round selection, that is great.
The Chargers are in the market for a tight end whether Hunter Henry stays or leaves. The team will eventually need to replace Virgil Green and there is a chance that Henry just gets franchise tagged and stays in LA for one season.
If that is the case, Byrant would be the perfect blocking tight end that could double as the secondary pass-catching tight end. If Henry leaves, he will get thrown to the wolves but should get some favorable matchups with the other weapons in the offense that the defense has to worry about.
He gives Teddy B another reliable weapon as well as helps the blocking brigade.
