Los Angeles Lakers: Predicting the team’s record in March
By Jason Reed
Next five:
March 12 vs. Houston Rockets — Loss
The Houston Rockets are a team that I do not think a lot of fans are taking seriously but they absolutely could shock one of the LA teams in the playoffs if things go their way. The team doubled-down and went all-in on going small with Robert Covington, and so far, it has worked, making Russell Westbrook more efficient in the process.
I think over a seven-game series the Lakers will be able to figure the Rockets small-ball gameplan out and outlast Houston. However, catching in the middle of the March after two big wins is another story. Houston steals this game from the Lakers.
March 15 vs. Denver Nuggets — Win
This will be the Lakers’ sixth straight game at the Staples Center and while the Denver Nuggets are currently the second seed in the Western Conference, there are levels to this and the Lakers are the significantly more talented team.
The Lakers are 2-1 against the Nuggets this season and I cannot envision a world in which Denver beats the Lakers three out of four games.
March 16 @ Utah Jazz — Loss
This is a surprising one, eh? After playing six straight games at the Staples Center, the Lakers have a traveling back-to-back as they take on the Utah Jazz in Utah on the 16th.
Utah is a tough place to play and while the Jazz are just 21-9 at home, they can beat any team on any given night on their home court, which we will see in this one. The Lakers will start the game off slow and the Jazz will build a big enough lead to hold onto it at the end of regulation.
March 18 vs. Utah Jazz — Win
And the Los Angeles Lakers get their revenge. After a sluggish loss on the road against the Jazz two days earlier, the Lakers come out firing in their home contest against the Jazz, again proving that there are levels to this.
March 21 @ Charlotte Hornets — Win
The Charlotte Hornets really poise no threat to the Los Angeles Lakers and the only concern here would be this being a trap game of sorts for the Lakers. However, the talent advantage will overcome and sluggish start for the Lakers and lead to a predictable outcome.
