Philip Rivers signs with the Indianapolis Colts

Sorry to go with the grain and the popular consensus, but Philip Rivers signing with the Indianapolis Colts makes so much sense that I would actually be shocked if that is not what happens this offseason.

The Colts were seemingly blindsided by Andrew Luck‘s retirement and with a talented cast around him, it was especially jarring as it took the team out of playoff contention, or so they thought.

Jacoby Brissett came in and was pretty good for the first half of the season, however, he came back down to earth and with injury concerns, the Colts would be better pressed to go after a short-term option like Rivers to maximize their contending window.

For Rivers, the Colts present a dream destination. They have a better offensive line than he has probably ever had with the Los Angeles Chargers and have a running game that they can rely on, which is huge for a veteran like Rivers.

The team would need to add more targets in the passing game than just T.Y. Hilton, which is what the draft is for, although they have two good tight ends in Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron.

And of course, Rivers has familiarity with Colts head coach Frank Reich. Reich was the quarterbacks coach of the Chargers in 2013 and the offensive coordinator in 2014 and 2015.
