Round 3, pick 2: Jordan Elliott, DL, Missouri

Trade alert: The Los Angeles Rams traded the team’s second-round pick to the Detroit Lions for the Lions’ third, fourth and fifth-round picks.

We did not plan on making a trade in this mock draft but when it was our turn to pick with the 20th pick in the second round, the Detroit Lions offered their third, fourth and fifth-round picks to move up a handful of spots to the Rams’ second-round pick.

The Rams traded down last year to get more draft picks and if the front office received this kind of offer then it would be very hard to see them turn it down. The team gets a high fourth and fifth-round pick in exchange for moving back 14 spots.

And with the second pick in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams do not address the offensive line right away and instead draft defensive lineman, Jordan Elliott.

Elliott has some raw tendencies but has the athleticism and produced well at the college level, indicating that he could be a starter right away in the right system and could be an impact starter as soon as year two.

The best part about Elliott is his ability to shift to the inside or the outside of the defensive line, particularly in a 3-4 front. He was great as a run-stopper when playing inside and showed great ability to get past the offensive line when getting one-on-one matchups on the outside.

The Rams would be the perfect fit for Elliott to start his NFL career as he would get the benefit of playing alongside Aaron Donald, which will give him more favorable matchups early in his career, leading to better results.
