3. The MVP race beings

Cody Bellinger officially announced that he was a serious contender in the National League MVP race against the Milwaukee Brewers in late-April. Bellinger was already having a record-setting first month of the year but this officially announced that he was coming for Christian Yelich.

With the Dodgers up 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Yelich hit a high fly ball that seemingly had enough juice on it to get out of the park. Backtracked Bellinger, back, back, back, before leaping at the wall, extending his right arm as high as he could reach and he robbed Christian Yelich.

Talk about being symbolic.

Pedro Baez allowed runners in scoring position and with two outs the Dodgers turned to Kenley Jansen, who let up a towering three-run home run to tie the game.

The Brewers turned to Josh Hader in the top of the ninth and it appeared as if they had a good chance of winning it in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs in the inning and two strikes on Cody Bellinger, Brewer fans were ready for the bottom of the frame.

Bellinger said not so fast. Hader threw a cookie in the middle of the zone to Bellinger, who blasted it far out of Christian Yelich’s reach to give the Dodgers a 6-5 lead. The Dodgers won the game 6-5 and Bellinger won the battle against Yelich.
